Just outside the village, set back from the Shotesham road lies an area of woodland. It is bordered by fields on all 4 sides and has no public rights of way to disturb its tranquility. The woods are part of William and Clare Turner’s farmland and they have, very generously, given us permission to use them throughout the year to enhance the curriculum.
Following the storms of last winter, many branches, and indeed some trees came down, so it has taken time to have the whole area checked for safety. Some of the fallen branches have been creatively used to make a shelter for us to use to extend the time we are able to use the woods.
This year we hope to be using the woods for many, many activities, from science to art, poetry to maths and geography to PE. We have used the Sainsbury’s vouchers this year for Orienteering equipment and are very excited about the new facility.
So a huge THANK YOU to William and Clare Turner for their generosity, to Tim and Alma Mayhew for all their time and effort in clearing the area and building the frame for the shelter, to Carl and Adrian Mayhew for their great expertise in building it and to Dan Hall for providing the windows and doors to make it secure.
