We have been learning all about life cycles and metamorphosis! We have created our own lifecycles for frogs and butterflies and in Reception, we have created a pond with tadpoles and frogs. We were very lucky that Eliza brought in her butterflies for us to release onto the playground. Can you spot the butterfly in the tree?
Year 2 Maths Day
Year 2 had a fantastic time at Hempnall Primary School for a maths day on 4th May 2022.
We really enjoyed celebrating mayday by learning how to maypole dance. Thank you to everyone that came to see us showing off our skills in the afternoon!
Welcome back to our new term! Our topic for this term is 'The lesser spotted animals'. We are very excited for our exploration around the world to find out about different animals, as well as learning all about how animals are classified!
World Book Week
We have had a wonderful week in Smeds and Smoos celebrating World Book Week!
This week we have been reading and learning about two amazing books, 'Introducing Teddy' and 'Julian is a Mermaid'. These books have taught us that it is ok to be ourselves and be unique, and even when we feel different our friends and families will still love and support us.
On Thursday we got to take part in more wonderful World Book day celebrations, by dressing up as our favourite story book characters and creating our own books in a box.
The children have had such fun with all the amazing activities this week and have loved reading and sharing their favourite stories!
There's no place like home
This term we are exploring architecture around the world!
We have started by investigating different materials and their properties. Our first challenge was to experiment with materials for our 'Umbrella Investigation'. The aim was to design and create a shelter or umbrella to protect Teddy and keep them dry. The children worked extremely hard to experiment with materials, keeping record of the best materials that would provide Teddy with protection from the rain and finally, using these materials they have creates some amazing umbrellas.
We learnt about all types of bridges such as arch, beam, suspension and cantilever bridges. We then designed and created our own bridges.
Born In The Hay
Performed by Smeds and Smoos
We have loved rehearsing and performing the nativity over the last few weeks. It has been a lot of fun and hard work and we are sad that it is now all over!
Why fit in when you are born to stand out?
WOW! What an amazing day we had to end our Roman topic! We had an immersive Roman day to learn all about what Romans wore, where they lived, Roman mosaics, and of course, gladiators! Check out the pictures below to see what we got up to!
We had an amazing Celtic adventure at the woods! Face painting, Warrior training, Celtic roundhouse building, marshmallows on the fire and bow and arrow creating.
This week in Smeds and Smoos we have been immersed in the Celts. We have started to think about people who are inspirational and we started talking about Boudicca! This has led to some incredible work around Celtic symbols, roundhouses, chariots, and all about Boudica. Check out some of our fantastic roundhouses and chariots below! Next week we will be looking at the Romans...
We really enjoyed going to the church for Harvest festival this week and we have continued our learning in class all about harvest. Lots of children were really interested in farms and we started to create our own farms and think about our senses at the farm.
We have been really enjoying learning all about our bodies in Smeds and Smoos. We looked at our bones and created skeletons, we learned about our different organs, and most recently, we have been learning all about our senses.
We have really enjoyed our first week at school and we have already been incredibly busy in our learning. In the first week we have already completed scavenger hunts, created obstacle courses around the playground, relaxed with foot spas, planted seeds in the garden and visited the woods!
