Our Ethos

A small federation of small schools in South Norfolk. We are making the schools that we would have wanted to go to. By working together in collaboration, we improve one another and support each other to grow. Sunflowers are known for their resilience and symbolise hope, happiness, and growth. Our federation nurtures childrens’ academic, personal, and spiritual growth. It inspires children, staff, and parents to strive for excellence in all aspects of their life, just as sunflowers grow towards the sun and reach their full potential.

The roots, for Brooke CE VC’s church foundations, indicate that we are rooted and grounded in God's love, which is at the core of all our actions and educational philosophy. The stem represents our curriculum, which provides a strong foundation for our children across both schools to grow and thrive. The leaves symbolise our values, which drive our decision-making and behaviour. The petals are indicative of our key focuses such as DEI, careers, and compassion. Lastly, the bees and butterflies that are flying away from the sunflower represent the things that we want our children to leave us with, which are the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to make a positive impact in the world.

Year 3

Is taught by Miss Wilkinson.

Welcome to Otters page!

You can find our Spring Term Mid Plan here.

We have absolutely loved being back at school! We have been super busy getting stuck into Hockey at the field in Brooke. On Friday we had the opportunity to explore the woodland where we looked at some features of the Stone Age period. We made mud fossils, we painted with natural berries we found in the woods, made some structures for living in, made tools to help and learnt how to whittle.

In class we have been super busy learning about the BIG BANG! We have been painting and displaying our learning in our new learning journals.

This week Otters class have been learning about different types of rock. We explored how igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock is made through the process of the rock cycle. We got our hands a little messy on Friday when we used chocolate to make sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. We absolutely loved it!!

Next week, we will be investigating fossils...

Otters have been working incredibly hard over the last week with their adventure stories where they travelled back in time to the Stone Age. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!

We have had the best week in Otters!! We've been really busy exploring and learning about Notting Hill Carnival, we tried chicken curry, rice and peas, plantain and dumplings. We made some masks ready for our carnival parade, we learnt how to play some Caribbean music on the drums, we learnt Soka dancing and learnt all about Claudia Jones who was the founder of Notting Hill Carnival.

We have been celebrating Diwali! Check out our awesome learning journal pages.

Otters have spent the last few days exploring and learning about World War 2. On Thursday 11th November we made our very own blackout poetry for Remembrance Day based on the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae.

We have been learning about the black poppy and why we lay different coloured poppy wreaths on Remembrance Day. Our black poppy wreath can be found down at St Peter's Church. Otters explored the journey that Sam King, Winston Murphy, Victor Brown and Jake Jacobs took back in 1944 to serve as soldiers in WW2.

What a wonderful week back it has been! The children in Otters have been busy exploring our new topic "To Infinity and Beyond!" We have started learning all about planet Earth, human and physical features, continents, oceans, countries, habitats and biomes.

Otters have been learning how to quill in class. We have made some solar systems!! They are so beautiful!

Otters have been creating their own Shaduf in design technology this week, inspired by their Ancient Egyptian learning in topic. They have been using a variety of materials to create their own hand held irrigation machine. They are fantastic!!
